Agnessa Chernetskaia

Agnessa Chernetskaia is an artist who works in the classical technique of oil painting, where a precise visual image becomes a metaphor for an inner state. The animals in her works are not illustrations of a story but characters in their own right: a leopard in the branches of a lemon tree, a rabbit cautiously peeking out from tropical foliage toward the light, a chameleon changing color among grapevines. Each image captures a precise psychological state: vigilance, a timid appearance, or forced mimicry. The central theme of her recent works is the experience of emigration and the search for one's identity in a foreign environment. Agnessa explores that liminal feeling when you are physically already in a new place, but your mind is constantly deciphering and weighing the unfamiliar landscape, language, and rules. In her own words, art for her is “meaning, awareness of one's emotions, and, of course, a restorative force.” Her paintings are a visual diary of this journey: the protagonist moves forward slowly, attentively, and sometimes warily, trying not to lose herself in the process. This is precisely why her works fit so naturally into the philosophy of thoughtful contemplation—behind the recognizable plot lies a precise handling of emotion that helps us slow down and find a foothold during times of change.
